What's a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is a professional support person trained in the needs of the family in the days, weeks and months after birth, or the addition of a new baby. The doula offers non-judgmental support, guidance, evidence based education and practical hands-on support immediately after birth through the first year. Why do we need one?
A family should consider a postpartum doula if they need additional physical , emotional and informational support during the critical 4th trimester. Postpartum doulas assist with newborn care, such as soothing, and feeding. As well as postpartum recovery for the entire family such as cooking, light housework and organizing. Postpartum doulas also can send various resources for the family including mental health screenings and support groups for both parents.
